Our Story

Founded in 1996 by award-winning performer, director, and choreographer Raynor van der Merwe, Encore Theatrical Arts Project (ETAP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit performing arts company based in Chantilly, bringing original productions to audiences across Northern Virginia and beyond.

From the beginning, ETAP has been dedicated to creating original productions that entertain audiences of all ages, with talented young performers at the heart of every show. Each production is held to a professional standard, from choreography and staging to the final performance.

What began as a project has grown into a thriving arts organization. By inspiring excellence in its performers, ETAP has raised the standard for local theatre in the vibrant community outside the Nation's Capital. Over three decades, the company has staged more than 50 original productions for over 100,000 audience members and has partnered with fellow non-profit organizations to raise funds for local community enrichment programs. ETAP alumni have gone on to perform on Broadway, with the Radio City Rockettes, on national tours, and in Disney productions.

ETAP's reach extends well beyond Northern Virginia. The company has toured seven countries (China, Spain, Italy, France, Greece, South Africa, and Ireland), sharing its passion for community and performance on the global stage. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has recognized ETAP for representing the county and the United States at the Beijing Cultural Festival.

Throughout its history, ETAP's mission has remained the same: to train performers who elevate the stage they are on, support those around them, and move through life with poise and confidence.
